Bio

Frame and a Half: not fully contained.

Camilo Barria, born 1973, crafts fragmented on-location visual journals. He explores the symbolic interplay between images to develop layers of meaning rather than its surrogation to the written word, blending fiction and documentary outside formal linear structures and closer to an architectural palimpsest. Born to Chilean political activists, he grew up in exile, and his early experiences with displacement and alienation shaped his identity and vision.

His work has been screened at film festivals and institutions such as Film-Maker's Coop New Year/New Work, American Cinematheque's This Is Not a Fiction, Analogica, Martovski Film Festival, New Jersey Film Festival, Rutgers University, West Virginia University, Videodrome, Kinoskop, and the Millennium Film Workshop.

He holds a BA in sociology, with a concentration in politics and social theory. He has studied directing independently with video artist and author Navid Sinaki and Peter Markham, former AFI Head of the Directing Program, director, and author.

Member of The Film-Maker's Cooperative / NACG.
Lives and works in California.
